Test Taking Strategies - Final Exam

Español 2A / 2B

Be A Smart Test Taker!

  • Know where and when your test is: Friday, June 2nd for Listening Comprehension. Monday, June 5th for Writing, and Tuesday, June 6th for Reading Comprehension. All exam sections for Spanish will be given in class. BE PRESENT, AND BE ON TIME.

  • Be prepared: bring several pens. Answers will be filled in on the exam Answer Sheet. All answers MUST be written in blue or black ink.

  • Don't bring any unnecessary items: no bookbags, jackets, folders, or electronic devices (phones, MP3 players, walkmans, discmans, PDAs, etc.) are permitted in the testing room.  Don't create more work for yourself! Also - if your watch is currently set to beep automatically at various intervals - adjust it! No one wants to hear your watch beep every 15 minutes!!

  • Study! : Studying is good, but studying at the last minute is not so good. You've already known for a while that your exam is on June 2nd, 5th and 6th. Instead of vegging out in front of the TV or spending hours on IM or PS2 (or whatever), why don't you spend some of that time going over your notes & vocab?

  • Use the resources available to you:  if you're reading this, then you are already taking advantage of an important resource - the class website. Read through the grammar notes provided on the Exam Review Page and try out some of the exercises posted there also. Not sure if you'll remember your vocab? Improve your chances for success and try some of the vocab flashcard links posted.

  • Take your time: On exam days you have  the entire period to complete your exam, so there's no need to rush through the test and be done in 5 minutes! Look through your test booklet when you start and see what sorts of exercises you are being asked to do. Also take a look at your composition topics.  Pay attention to directions and make sure you understand what you are being asked to do. Once you've scoped out the test, pace yourself. Don't move like molasses, but don't be "SpeedRacer" either. Take the time to carefully complete each question, and make sure you are filling in the appropriate spot on your Answer Sheet. Don't be afraid to do a draft of your compositions before you write the final version on the exam answer sheet - this may help you to make a physical list of all the tings you can say/cover in your essay. Better to be safe than sorry!

  • Check your work:  once you've decided that your exam has been completed and that you have answered the questions and essays to the best of your ability, check your work! Make sure you are leaving NO BLANK SPACES. Make sure you've filled in the right spot on the Answer Sheet and that you have an appropriate word count for your essays. Also make sure that your NAME is on everything!!

Good luck to all! ¡Buena suerte!
