THE FUTURE TENSE

The future tense is formed in Spanish by adding a special set of endings to the infinitive. These endings are the same for –ar, -er and –ir verbs.

The endings:

-emos
-ás -éis
-án

USES OF THE FUTURE TENSE:

*The future tense is used to express future time.

¿A qué hora llegarán ustedes?

--Estaremos para las tres.

**The future tense may often be replaced by the ir + a + infinitive construction. This commonly used construction refers to the immediate future whereas the actual future tense refers to both the immediate and the remote future.
Esquiaré en las montañas Pirineos.

Voy a esquiar en las montañas Pirineos.

***The future tense is often replaced by the indicative when there is another element of the sentence that indicates future time:

Llamo el jueves por la tarde.

****The future tense can be replaced by the present tense when asking for directions (shall, should):

¿Doblo aquí al semáforo?
